Hope: Stories from India’ – a photographic exhibition by David Brunetti for Target TB.

Exibiting as part of Brighton Festival.

India has the highest incidence of TB in the world. In 2009, professional photographer David Brunetti traveled to Dehradhun in the north east of the country with Brighton based charity, Target TB. 

He visited projects with AKS Hope, a small charity working in urban slum communities, and with the Raphael TB hospital, the only facility of its kind in the area that is a real lifeline for some of the poorest people.

Target TB's beautiful and compelling images tell the everyday stories of real people and places affected by TB. They hope it will bring you closer to the people you could help by supporting Target TB this year.

Here in the UK we tend to think of TB as a disease of the past but in fact it is still one of the world’s biggest killer diseases – with 9 million new cases emerging each year and 2 million people losing their lives.

The tragedy is, people are dying needlessly because TB is completely preventable and curable. Just £40 can find, treat and cure one person and stop them infecting up to 15 other people in one year.

TB is thriving in developing countries because of poverty. It preys on people whose immune systems are weakened by overcrowded housing, bad sanitation and malnutrition.

Target TB  is a small, focused charity based on North Street. We work with local partners across Africa and Asia to reach some of the most impoverished, isolated people in the world.

Our vision is a world free from TB. Our mission is to address the health, social and economic impact of the global TB epidemic amongst vulnerable and marginalized groups.
